James W. Purcell, an Attorney and Partner with Fulcher Hagler LLP in Augusta, Georgia, has been elected to serve on the Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA) President’s Advisory Council. His term is effective July 1, 2013.
Jim Purcell has been a Partner with Fulcher Hagler’s Litigation Group since 1984 and specializes in litigation, railroad law and professional negligence. He is a member of the State Bar of Georgia, and is a past president of the Augusta Bar Association. Currently he is a member of the Board of Directors of the Georgia Defense Lawyers Association.
Purcell received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia in Athens, and received his juris doctor from the University of Georgia School of Law.
According to Purcell, “I first learned of, and volunteered with, COTA when a classmate of my son was a COTA kid years ago. Now, by serving on COTA’s President’s Advisory Council, I see an opportunity to help COTA achieve its strategic mission of providing highly needed resources of transplant families nationwide who lives have been turned upside down due to a transplant diagnosis.”
Purcell has also served on the American Red Cross Board of Directors, has been involved in leadership with the Boy Scouts, and was a member of the Augusta Symphony Orchestra Board of Directors.

Jim and his wife, Anne, have four children and reside in Augusta, Georgia.
The Children’s Organ Transplant Association is a national charity that provides fundraising assistance to transplant families. Since 1986, COTA’s priority is to assure that no child or young adult is denied a transplant or excluded from a transplant waiting list due to a lack of funds. 100% of all funds raised in honor of transplant patients are used for transplant-related expenses.
