Alexander Merrill

Alex Merrill is a dedicated attorney, whether in the civil or criminal arena. The driving force behind his practice is his commitment to protecting the rights and livelihoods of his clients and being a constant student of the law. He regularly works alongside local governments regarding their ordinances and policies and defends them against litigation. He handles contract and property damage disputes arising from construction, leases, motor vehicle accidents, and more. He also has a background in criminal defense, which equips him to address matters ranging from traffic offenses to felonies.

Prior to his time with Fulcher Hagler, Alex served at the Public Defender’s Office in Dougherty County. He spent years in their felony division, litigating and resolving a wide variety of cases including drug possession and trafficking, theft, burglary, property damage, and aggravated assault. That position yielded valuable trial experience in complex, intense cases involving aggravated assault, vehicular homicide, and murder. Afterwards he worked with the firm of Ross, Handelman, Nestale & Goff, LLC in Albany, Georgia defending worker’s compensation claims and lawsuits involving local government.

Alex is an Augusta native and active member in good standing of the State Bar of Georgia. After attending the University of Georgia for his undergraduate degree, he graduated from Mercer University’s Walter F. George School of Law as both a merit scholar and a graduate of their advanced legal writing program. He is a published contributor to For The Defense, a national law magazine for civil defense attorneys, on the topic of civil rights actions arising from the execution of “no-knock” warrants.

Outside of work, he is both a member and teacher at First Presbyterian Church of Augusta and an elder within the Presbyterian Church in America. He enjoys rowing and kayaking along the Savannah River or relaxing at home with a good book.
