Steven L. Sanders

Steve has been a member of Fulcher Hagler’s business, estates, and tax group since he joined the firm in 2011. His practice areas include estate planning (wills, trusts, powers of attorney, health care powers, elder law, tax planning, asset protection, family partnerships), estate administration and probate matters (including guardianships and conservatorships), business organizations (LLCs, partnerships, corporations), nonprofit and charitable organizations, business succession planning, business sales and acquisitions, and property matters (including leases, commercial real estate closings, and secured lending transactions).

A graduate of the University of Georgia (Journalism, 2003) and the University of South Carolina School of Law (Juris Doctor, cum laude, 2011), he also earned an LLM (Master of Laws in Taxation) from Boston University in 2015. Having previously worked as a newspaper sports reporter and as a writer/editor in corporate public relations, Steve brings a strong writing and communications background to his relationships with Fulcher Hagler’s clients.

Outside of the office, Steve enjoys serving the Augusta community in many ways. He served as President of the Augusta Bar Association in 2021 and currently serves as Chairman of the Richmond County Republican Party. He is a member of the Executive Committee of the Fiduciary Law Section of the State Bar of Georgia and a member of the Advocacy Committee for the Augusta Metro Chamber of Commerce. He has served as President of the Friends of the Augusta Library and as a Trustee for the Augusta-Richmond County Public Library System. He has also served as a Trustee for Historic Augusta, Inc. and was a member of the University of Georgia Board of Visitors from 2018 to 2020. He is a member of the Leadership Georgia Class of 2023 and serves on the Charles Yates Scholarship Committee for the Georgia State Golf Foundation.

In law school at the University of South Carolina, Steve was an active student leader and an editorial board member of the South Carolina Law Review. He argued before the Supreme Court of South Carolina as a finalist in the J. Woodrow Lewis Moot Court Competition. He also received the CALI Excellence for the Future Award for high marks in Trial Advocacy and Criminal Procedure.

Before law school, Steve was a sports writer for several years, including at The Augusta Chronicle, The Gainesville (Ga.) Times, and The Aiken Standard.  He covered minor league baseball and hockey, area high school sports, and the Masters tournament.  A 2003 graduate of UGA’s Grady College of Journalism, Steve was the sports editor and an award-winning columnist for The Red & Black student newspaper.  He was a Georgia State Golf Foundation Yates Scholar and a Wayne Reynolds Scholar from 1999 to 2003.

Steve grew up in Comer, Georgia, near Athens. He is a proud graduate of Madison County High School in Danielsville, where he played varsity football, basketball, and golf. He was a U.S. Army Reserve National Scholar/Athlete and an all-area defensive back.

Steve enjoys golf, politics, newspapers, American history, Georgia football, and Braves baseball. He and his wife Anna have two sons and are members of Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church.
